The Maloof Money Cup on NBC July 19th

Posted: 17 Jul 2009 02:57 PM PDT

Although you may avoid grip tape like the plague (or are asking a friend what grip tape is right now), lots of people use their skate shoes for their intended purpose. Perfect example, this past weekend some of the best to ever put their soles on grip tape gathered in Southern California for the Maloof Money Cup. The event is one of the biggest events in skateboarding. For any event, big money brings out the best, both for the competition, as well as the fans. Maloof Sports & Entertainment has come up with nearly half a million dollars in prize money, so you can bet that the competition was tough.

For those of us that weren’t able to make the event, NBC is holding us down with the coverage. The Maloof Money Cup will air this Sunday July 19 on NBC at 11a.m. PST/2p.m. EST.

Footwear Faceoff: Kanye vs. Lil Wayne Timberland Edition

Posted: 17 Jul 2009 01:51 PM PDT

kanye-wayne
As much as some of us try to fight it, Kanye West creates trends. His latest? Timberlands in the summer. The rapping- fashionisto has been seen out and about wearing worn-in 6 Inch Premium Timberlands at awards shows, and other various paparazzi-friendly spots.

West is not the only one wearing timbo's though, Lil Wayne also seems to be rocking the construction boots in the middle of this heat wave as well. It's a heavyweight match-up, arguably the two biggest rappers in the game rocking the same footwear, different ways. Who wore it better? Check the pics, vote then hit up the comments and let us know your thoughts.

Nike Hyperize “Billy Hoyle”

Posted: 17 Jul 2009 01:50 PM PDT

Nike Hyperize Billy HoyleBilly Hoyle may be many things, just get things straight, he ain’t no chump.  The character played long ago by Woody Harrelson is celebrated this weekend with the release of a duo of Nike Hyperizes inspired by the movie White Men Can’t Jump.  To represent Billy Hoyle, Nike called upon the colors from the shoes he wore in the film, the Nike Air Command Force, as well as a few other details including his T-shirt from the Venice Beach Courts scene as well as tie-dye which represents his hat.

Both pairs of the “White Men Can’t Jump” Nike Hyperize release tomorrow as a quickstrike for $125.  Click here to see additional shots of the shoes.

Pro-Keds 69ers Uptowner Lo “NY Mets”

Posted: 17 Jul 2009 01:49 PM PDT

Pro Keds New York MetsAt the beginning of February, we showed you the Pro-Keds Nubuck Royal Low "NBA" Lineup, and the majority of you really liked its simplicity. However, Pro-Keds now switches its inspirations from the orange leather to the white, stitched ball.

Using the 69ers Uptowner Lo, one of its most-recognized models, Pro-Keds designed a sneaker inspired by the New York Mets. It features a 100% black suede base with orange and blue accents that appear throughout the silouhette. The sole and the toe cap also incorporate a blue and orange line border giving this shoe an identical color scheme to the New York Mets. The numbers, 1969 are placed on the heel panel in representation of the ballclub’s first World Series title. In addition, 69 pairs were created with 48 being released to the public. This shoe will be available at three stores including PackerShoes. Click here to view detailed photos.

Nike Blazer “Scantron Sheet”

Posted: 17 Jul 2009 01:48 PM PDT

Nike Blazer ScantronWe’ve all been there, showing up late to that early morning class, only realize you forgot to bring Scantrons for the test. If you had these latest Nike Blazers you might not have forgot (more like deciding which Nikes to wear is what made you late, right?).

The Nike Blazer “Scantron Sheet” takes inspiration from those hated little sheets and the number two pencil that has to go with them. The typical A through D has been replaced with the letters N-I-K-E, which is probably what you were thinking of last time you filled a Scantron out. These will be available around the start of school, but only in grade school sizes.

Click here to see detailed photos.
