It is composed of a white canvas upper with a red Swoosh, grey tongue, black contrast stitching, and a smoke grey outsole. adidas Launches the Lightest Shoe in Basketball

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 12:28 PM PDT

adidas Crazy Light

Today, April 14, 2011, adidas Basketball will unveil the adidas adiZero Crazy Light, the lightest shoe in basketball. How light is this shoe you ask? At 9.8 ounces, the newly-designed, revolutionary adiZero Crazy Light surpasses the Nike Zoom Kobe V and Nike Zoom Kobe VI for the lightest basketball shoe ever created. Specifically, the Crazy Light is more than 15 percent lighter than the nearest competitor, and it now gives adidas the lightest footwear in three sports including football (adiZero 5-Star cleat) and soccer (F50 adiZero cleat).

“No other basketball shoe compares to the new adiZero Crazy Light and it’s a shoe that will revolutionize the game,” said Lawrence Norman, adidas Vice President of Global Basketball. “The ultra lightweight design is built for players who want to be faster, jump higher and perform better on the court. From the NBA’s best to pick-up games across the world, players are asking for light footwear to help them become one step quicker – and the adiZero Crazy Light delivers this in a way like no shoe in history.”

The adidas Innovation Team has been developing the adiZero Crazy Light (for over two years) from the canvas of a bare foot to ensure every part of the shoe serves a vital performance function. The Crazy Light possesses a revolutionary new SPRINTWEB exoskeleton upper which is less than 1mm thick. It is bonded to a nylon textile base to shed weight and provide increased support and strength. In addition, the fusion between the SPRINTFRAME external heel counter and the TORSION SYSTEM help reduce weight and increase motion control. Each lace eyelet is load bearing and has a corresponding web spar to support players during hard cuts. As for the the upper as a whole, it is constructed of translucent nylon to further decrease weight and give players nearly 360 degrees of ventilated comfort. The adiZero Crazy Light’s traction system is thicker in high wear areas to ensure maximum grip, and less thickness in low perimeter zones like the midfoot.

Derrick Rose and other adidas brand members will debut this shoe in the 2011 NBA Playoffs.

“Lighter footwear makes you faster and speed dominates on the basketball court,” said Derrick Rose, two-time NBA All-Star of the top-seeded Chicago Bulls. “The adiZero Crazy Light is the lightest basketball shoe I’ve ever worn and it will no doubt make me faster on the court for our playoff run.”

adidas will release the adiZero Crazy Light on June 3, 2011, in four colorways for $130. Colorways include sharp blue/white, black/red/white, grey/white/neon green and red/white. Following that, adidas will release this shoe in six additional team colorways through September.

Burgundy tends to be a love-it or hate-it color on sneakers, but the latest Nike Air Max 90 drop makes it pretty agreeable no matter your feelings on the dark red hue. It appears on the Swoosh, lateral side branding and forefoot eyelet piece here, complementing the Varsity Red mudguard and outsole. Nike LeBron 8 PS Official Details

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 10:34 AM PDT

Nike LeBron 8 PS

Today, April 14, 2011, Nike and LeBron James officially announced the third variation of James’ eighth signature model, the Nike LeBron 8 PS. In detail, this shoe, which releases on April 16, 2011, is the final version in the three-sneaker LeBron 8 series. Nike and LeBron opted to go lighter and leaner for the rugged, demanding playoffs period of the season.

"Heading into the final stretch of the season, the LEBRON 8 PS mirrors my evolving game as strength and endurance are tested," said James. "The lion symbol on the tongue of all three versions of my eighth signature shoe keep me hungry and focused each time I lace up."

The LeBron 8 PS is James’ first signature shoe to feature the futuristic Hyperfuse construction, a technology which was first seen on the Zoom Hyperfuse. By incorporating Hyperfuse, the LeBron 8 PS sheds 1.5 ounces from the Nike LeBron 8 V2 and provides a more supportive, breathable and durable shoe for King James as he heads into the playoffs.

Hyperfuse construction is beginning to be a staple in Nike Basketball products. Inspired by outdoor basketball in Beijing, this lightweight technology provides strong and lightweight lockdown support with a unique breathable quality. The LeBron 8 PS actually combines three unique materials together to form the Hyperfuse constructed upper. The first layer features synthetic underlays for support, while the second layer is comprised of single layer mesh for ventilation. Lastly, the top layer is made of a thin TPU layer that is placed in high-wear areas for durability.

Nike LeBron 8 PS designer Jason Petrie was inspired by the different changes a player like LeBron James goes through during the course of an 82-game season in addition to playoffs. "One of the main things LeBron and I talked about early on was how do we develop a series of shoes that syncs with the change in his body and in his game over the course of the season, especially as he moves from the regular season into the intense and critical post-season," said Petrie. "LeBron found success in the first two LEBRON 8 shoes and we want to make sure we give him every advantage as he enters this intensified last run of the season."

Petrie, who also designed the Nike Air Max LeBron VII and the first two LeBron 8 variations, is credited for applying a full-length Air Max unit to sneakers within James’ signature line; however, he switched from the Max Air 360 unit to a lighter Max Air 180 unit in the heel for added lightness. It also possesses a Nike Zoom unit in the forefoot and carbon fiber in the arch to create an evolved cushioning system. Additionally, a full-length Cushlon midsole acts as a bouncy, springy surface for James. As for traction, the LeBron 8 PS features a traditional solid rubber herringbone pattern, along with flex grooves in the forefoot and heel.

As stated earlier, the Nike LeBron 8 PS will officially hit retailers on Saturday, April 16, 2011. Therefore, expect James to wear this shoe in game 1 of the Philadelphia 76ers vs Miami Heat first round playoff series on the same day.

Footwear Faceoff: Maybach Music Group

Yesterday, we lined up producer Pharrell with New York Knicks power forward Amar’e Stoudemire in a Footwear Faceoff. Although Amar’e was spotted in one of the biggest releases of the year so far, Pharrell defeated the power forward by sporting the “Black Cement” Air Jordan 3, a sneaker that is expected to release later this year. Today, we have constructed some friendly competition in our Footwear Faceoff. The Maybach Music Group, which includes Ricks Ross, Wale, Pill and Meek Mill, appeared on 106th and Park in some exquisite sneaker heat earlier this week. Rozay and Pill rocked recently released Jordan drops in the form of the “White Cement” Air Jordan 3 and the “Taxi” Air Jordan 12 Low, respectively. Philly’s Meek Mil laced up the classic “Space Jam” Air Jordan 11, and Wale teased many sneaker enthusiast by wearing the “Wolf Grey” Air Jordan 5. Which MMG member wore the better sneaker on 106th and Park? Let us know in the voting poll below.

Nike Air Max 1 Daybreak/Myth

It’s pretty hard to argue with most any Air Max 1. This new Nike stays in line with many of the recent constructions we’ve seen, thanks to its canvas toe box and tongue. Felt-like suede covers the rest of the upper, displaying Daybreak and Myth coloring. A lime outsole partners with the liner to brighten the overall demeanor and get this shoe perked up for summer usage.
