Sneakerheads for Haiti

Posted: 14 Jan 2010 12:58 PM PST

Dear Nice Kicks readers,

Earlier this week, the people of Haiti suffered an unimaginable tragedy. Millions have lost their homes and tens of thousands have lost their lives following an earthquake that shook the nation’s capitol of Port-au-Prince. Many across the globe are asking how they can help Haiti in this desperate time of need and what they can do to support the people of Haiti as they endure the long process of rebuilding and recovery.

Late last night, we reached out on twitter for all Austin area sneakerheads to join in on our team’s efforts to collect shoes to send to Haiti. We received a great response and have been collecting shoes throughout the day at our offices, but now we need the help from EVERYONE.

We are pleased to announce that we are now in partnership with an awesome charity that is making a major commitment to bringing footwear to the victims of this awful disaster. Soles4Souls is accepting donations for new or gently worn shoes that will be shipped to Haiti.

I spoke with a coordinator at Soles 4 Souls earlier today and they already have 30 containers of brand new shoes already en route across the Gulf to reach Haiti.

There are many ways that all of us can help in this effort.

1) Text “SHOES” to 20222 to make a donation of $5 to Soles4Souls

2) Send any new or gently worn shoes to the address below

Sneakerheads for Haiti
Soles4Souls, Inc.
315 Airport Road
Roanoke, AL 36274

Please give what you can to those so desperately in need.

Sincerely,

Nice Kicks Team

Black Mamba Sighting at Nike Beijing

Black Mamba Nike Beijing

Kobe Bryant is one of the biggest icons in Asia basketball-wise. Besides Michael Jordan, there has never been a bigger basketball influence to date. Niketown in Beijing is paying tribute to Kobe Bryant and the release of the Nike Zoom Kobe V with an actual, enlarged Black Mamba snake figurine.

The snake sits in the middle of the store and looks as if it is attacking something (a deconstructed Nike Zoom Kobe V also sits next to this gigantic snake). We must applaud Nike Beijing for being creative with hits newly-designed store. Click here to view additional photos.

adidas Originals ZX500 & ZX700

adidas Originals ZX500 & ZX700

adidas Originals is bringing out these classic runners for Spring, giving us all a shot at two old school silhouettes in very clean colorways. Both the ZX500 and ZX700 we see here should hit your local dealer in the near future.

The ZX500 uses a bright color-up, with Cyan Blue as its base color. Mesh and nubuck are used for the construction, with Flamingo accents on the tongue, eyelets, stripes and midsole. The other runner, the ZX700, uses the classic black and yellow color scheme, with a similar mesh and nubuck construction. Both of these silhouettes have been out for just over 25 years now, so 2010 may be the year you need to get in to a pair, if you haven’t already.

Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier IV

Posted: 14 Jan 2010 11:28 AM PST

This Week in Sneaks

During the 2009 NBA playoffs, the Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier III became James’s playoff sneaker; he also somehow influenced his whole team to wear them on a few occasions during the playoffs. We can only conclude that James will pull this Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier IV out when the 2010 NBA playoffs began.

The Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier IV features a few distinctive features, however, it still features the strap attribute seen on every ‘Soldier’ sneaker thus far. It contains a metallic silver King James lion print design on the tongue, while the heel panel features details such as the Dunkman logo and the L23 medallion. More than likely, we will we see LeBron and his teammates in the White/White-Midnight Navy-Metallic Silver (left) pair come playoff time. Yet, the St. Vincent St. Mary’s colorway shown to the right is not too shabby itself. What are your thoughts on the Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier IV? Click here to view detailed photos.

Video: Jesse Leyva Talks About Torch Technology

Posted: 14 Jan 2010 10:58 AM PST

Just a few days ago, designer Jesse Leyva gave us some insight into the process of creating the DJ AM and DJ Premier x Nike Pack. Now he’s walking us through the process of creating Torch technology.

Torch has started to come on strong as we get going in 2010, as we’ve seen it in both the Air Maxim 1 and the updated Air Max BW Gen II. The above video features more looks at the latter of the two, as well as a thorough explanation of what inspired the Nike Sportswear team and their thought process.

Nike Air Macropus Lite QS Available at 21 Mercer

Posted: 14 Jan 2010 10:28 AM PST

Nike Air Macropus Lite QS

Last week, we notified you of these two Nike Air Macropus Lite being available at overseas retailers such as Kix-Files. However, we have received word that both colorways are now available at 21 Mercer Street.

These Macropus Lite are easily some of the more unique sneakers we have seen in a long time. Nonetheless, these sneakers are perfect for the cold weather to say the least. The “Mexican Blanket” pair owns a predominately purple suede base with a multi-colored design seen throughout the midfoot. As for the “Matagi” pair, it features a mostly off-white pony hair upper with hints of canvas and is inspired by the ancient Japanese Matagi Hunters. As stated earlier, both are now available at 21 Mercer. Click here to view more photos.

Video: Star Wars x adidas Originals

Posted: 14 Jan 2010 09:58 AM PST

The Star Wars x adidas Originals Collection has received a lot of coverage here on Nice Kicks. As one of the larger collections we’ve seen in awhile, this particular grouping draws inspiration from and pays tribute to one of the most renowned movies series ever. George Lucas’ legendary film work is representative of creativity and originality being put to work at the highest level.

To show just what adidas Originals is all about, as well as highlight the Star Wars collection, the shoemaker put together this video. With an updated version of the “Imperial March” playing in the background, we get guest appearances from the likes of Snoop Dogg, David Beckham, Calle 13, DJ Neil Armstrong and Daft Punk--all revered originators. Which shoe from this series has been your favorite so far?
