This Day In Sneaker History: Michael Jordan’s “Flu Game” Posted: 11 Jun 2011 12:38 PM PDT In game 4 of the Dallas Mavericks vs. Miami Heat series, Dirk Nowitzki had a gutsy performance by willing his team to victory despite his sinus infection, which produced a 101 degree fever. How gutsy was this performance you ask? Very. Yet, it would be totally unfair to compare his performance to what His Airness did in game 5 of the 1997 NBA Finals. Today, our “This Day In Sneaker History” column highlights MJ’s “Flu Game” performance. In 1997, a flu-ridden Michael Jordan scored 38 points and willed the Bulls to a victory while wearing the Air Jordan XII Black/Varsity Red. This shoe originally released in 1997, but it retroed in 2003 and 2009. The latter retro owned a few texture differences and featured various elements that connected with Jordan’s memorable game. In Retrospect: Air Jordan 6 White/Varsity Red-Black Posted: 11 Jun 2011 11:37 AM PDT Sure, the Air Jordan 6 “Infrared” Pack was one of the most sought after releases of 2010; however, Jordan Brand served us similar Air Jordan 6 entrees prior to its release. In addition to the Air Jordan 6 Black/Varsity Red that released in January 2010, JB unleashed the Air Jordan 6 White/Varsity Red just a week before the aforementioned Air Jordan 6 “Infrared” Pack. Did you purchase the Air Jordan 6 White/Varsity Red, and was it worth $150? If not, are you wishing you would have snagged them last June or did you purchase the "Infrared" Air Jordan 6s instead? How does this colorway rank amongst the other Air Jordan 6s that released last year ("Detroit Pistons", "Lakers", "Black/Varsity Red")? Lastly, was this one of your favorite Air Jordan Retro releases of 2010? Let us know your thoughts on the Air Jordan 6 White/Varsity Red in the comment section below! © George Kiel III for NiceKicks.com, 2011. | Permalink | No comment | Add to del.icio.us |
Nike Air Max 95 Black/Wolf Grey-Sun Yellow Posted: 11 Jun 2011 11:29 AM PDT The “Blue Spark” Nike Air Max 95 released today; yet, that will not be the only anticipated Air Max 95 colorway this year. Take a look at this Air Max 95 Black/Wolf Grey-Sun Yellow. It specifically features a predominately black leather/mesh base with a strip of Wolf Grey on the side panels. Additionally, minimal Sun Yellow hints appear in the form of the Air Max sole unit and the branding on the tongue and heel. © George Kiel III for NiceKicks.com, 2011. | Permalink | No comment | Add to del.icio.us |
Celebrity Rewind: Wale Premiers “Eggplant” Foamposite One in LRG Ad Posted: 11 Jun 2011 10:28 AM PDT Different label, different haircut, same Wale. In 2008, LRG featured the young MC in a print ad published in Dime Magazine. The progressive spread saw Folarin draped in LRG from head to ankle donning the never-before-worn "Eggplant" Nike Air Foamposite One. The purple pair stole the show for sneakerheads while adding buzz to the budding artist and brand. Wale would become synonymous with Foamposite and the sneaker would eventually release twice. Fast forward to 2011. Foamposite has moved from the nation's capitol to the national market. 100 miles and running, ten plus releases and counting. On a related note RIP to Jonas Bevacqua, co-founder of LRG. Your work continues to inspire. Distinct Life x New Balance 30 for 30: Day 11 (NB MT580 “Spy” Black) Posted: 11 Jun 2011 09:09 AM PDT After sporting the white New Balance MT580 “Spy vs. Spy” yesterday, Distinct Life’s Rick Williams returns with the black New Balance MT580 “Spy vs. Spy”. Much like yesterday’s weapon of choice, this shoe is also inspired by the “Spy vs. Spy” comic book characters. Obviously, this pair is mainly influenced by the black spy considering its primarily black textured upper and red attributes, specifically on the tongue, toe area, sole and heel. © George Kiel III for NiceKicks.com, 2011. | Permalink | No comment | Add to del.icio.us |
