Kicks On Court: Teams go LeBron and Kobe Happy For March Madness

Posted: 21 Mar 2009 08:08 AM PDT

Kicks On Court

Yesterday in our Kicks On Court, we showcased round 1 of the NCAA Tournament. In that post, we saw various college basketball players sporting Jordan, Kobe and LeBron sneakers. However, the latter two signature shoe lines were in heavy rotation during the second day of the first round.

Many players from schools such as USC, Ohio State and Portland State were hooping in the Kobe and LeBron sneakers. USC’s Zoom Kobe IV features a predominately red base with white and yellow accents throughout the upper. While USC owned specific PEs, teams like Portland State and Ohio State brought out the general releases. Click the jump to see more kicks worn by the tournament teams.

Nike Big Nike Hi LE “Phi Slamma Jamma”

Posted: 20 Mar 2009 02:23 PM PDT

Nike Big Nike Hi LE In college basketball, we have seen many great players and teams over the years such as Michigan’s “Fab 5″. However, young basketball fans may not remember the great 1982-84 University of Houston team dubbed the “Phi Slamma Jamma”. Players on that team included Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler. With that said, Nike plans on instilling this great team in your head by releasing a Nike Big Nike inspired by the team.

The shoe itself features many details inspired by the great University of Houston team. For example, head coach Guy V. Lewis always wore plaid-designed coats, therefore, the shoe contains a red/black plaid design on the side panels and heel area. The colorway is made up of a red base with white accents on the toe box, ankle area, shoelaces and midsole. Obviously, this represents University of Houston’s school colors. Other details include pictures of a basketball goal, the Phi Slamma Jamma fraternity sign and a silhouette of a player.

The “Phi Slamma Jamma” Nike Big Nike will be available exclusively at the House of Hoops.  Photos from Foot Locker.

Slayer x Vans Owens Hi

Posted: 20 Mar 2009 12:46 PM PDT

Slayer x Vans Owens HiThis Slayer x Vans Owens Hi might look familiar seeing that it looks very similar to the Vans Owens Hi Black we showed you last month. However, this colorway, along with the white color scheme (shown after the jump) contain many differences than the regular Vans Owens Hi. We have spotted the Slayer x Vans Owens Hi at Zappos.

It features a predominately black leather upper with red accents on the inner lining, heel and tongue. The word, ‘Slayer’ covers the heel in red as well. Also, the white colorway contains the same red accents. Other features include the speckled section on the midsole and the eagle design on the outsole. Thanks to Daily Drop for the info.

Nike Air Tech Challenge Hybrid

Posted: 20 Mar 2009 12:38 PM PDT

Nike Air Tech Challenge HybridNike has been pushing hybrids for awhile now. We’ve seen nearly every genre of footwear, no Nike is taking the Tech Challenge tennis line into the hybrid culture.

Nike Air Tech Challenge Hybrid has finally started to arrive at retailers. For those Agassi fans hoping to see the Air Tech Challenge IV, these will have to do, because as of now, there is no plans for the ATC IV OG to be retro’ed.  In the times of a rough economy, count on sneaker companies to give back and hook you up with four shoes for the price of one! (sarcasm)

A full size run is available on eBay now.

Converse Weapon ‘86 Returns

Posted: 20 Mar 2009 12:22 PM PDT

Converse Weapon Returns

The return of a heated Los Angeles/Boston rivalry between the Lakers and Celtics welcomes too the return of the shoe that was at the center of some of the fiercest battles.  The Converse Weapon was the shoe worn by commanders of their squads and Hall of Famers Larry Bird and Magic Johnson in the epic 1986 NBA Finals.  Though many draw a near synonym between the shoes and the two former players mentioned, it should not be forgotten that the Converse Weapon was worn by other NBA greats that include Isiah Thomas, Bernard King, Mark Aguirre, Kevin McHale, Robert Parrish, Bill Laimbeer, as well as a young Karl Malone.

Though the Converse Weapon ‘86 may be obsolete as a technical basketball shoe by today’s standards, at the time of its release, the Weapon featured some of the best design for stability that the market had to offer. The shoes feature the Y Bar system which extends the exterior of the upper around the ankle locking the heel in place and minimizing slipping on the foot bed.

Converse, a brand that just celebrated 100 years of continued success, will reintroduce the Weapon this month in timeless colors made famous on the feet of Magic and Bird. Celebrating the history of the shoes the shoes feature a 100% original color blocking and a repeating 1986 scoreboard pattern tieing back to the year the Weapon first hit the battle field.

Click here to check out more photos of the Converse Weapon as well as some throwback ads from back in the day.  For those looking to purchase a pair of history, the Converse Weapon has just been added to Converse.com for $80.

Nike Air Max 1 “40th Anniversary of Moon Landing”

Posted: 20 Mar 2009 12:00 PM PDT

Nike Air Max 1 40th Anniversary of Moon LandingThe Nike Air Max 1 receiving the most attention right now is the "Seersucker"; however, we have found a more meaningful colorway set to release soon.

This particular colorway pays tribute USA’s 40th Anniversary of its moon landing. With that said, this sneaker possesses an futuristic, out-of-space look. The upper consists of a black leather base with areas of quilted black nylon. It also features metallic silver accents on the sole, ankle area, tongue and shoelaces. Continuing its galaxy look, this shoe also has crater-like patterns embossed just above the sole. Stay tuned for release information. Via Colmilludo.

Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier III Detailed Photos

Posted: 20 Mar 2009 10:24 AM PDT

Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier III Detailed PhotosAt the end of last month, we showed you a catalog photo of the Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier III White/Navy Blue, and many of you thought it was a very nice silhouette and colorway. Therefore, we think your opinion on this color scheme will be the same, if not better for this colorway.

Obviously, the colorway matches perfectly with the Cavaliers jerseys. It features a black/white upper with minimal red accents on the top straps and ankle area. Although King James has been rocking the Zoom LeBron VI all season, expect to see him lace the Soldier III up come playoff time. Supposedly, there are a few more colorways that will surface soon.
