Fat Joe To Release Recession-Friendly Sneakers

Posted: 31 Mar 2009 12:01 PM PDT

Terror Squad x Protege The RecessionJoey Crack may have started a trend of licking the soles of your unworn Air Force Ones thanks to his unforgettable closet feature on MTV Cribs, but Joe now has his own shoe with the new low cost brand Protege.

Terror Squad gets a call out on the upper of the shoes dubbed The Recession.  Protege, like Starbury, is one of the latest low cost shoe brands started up by NBA players distributed exclusively to cost conscious outlets that include K-Mart.  This initial sketch made it to the web today via SneakerFiles but is getting many to wonder if Fat Joe has hung up his Nike’s for something that’s his own.  No word yet if these will sport the $35 price tag that most Protege shoes go for.

We’ll leave this up to you.  Copped or Flopped?

Nike Air Griffey Max 1 Black/Black

Nike Air Griffey Max 1 Black/Black

Earlier today, we showed you the Nike Air Griffey Max 1 Black/Red, and the majority of those who commented stated that it did not hold a torch up to the ‘Fresh Water’ colorway. In addition, we have now spotted an all-black colorway of the Nike Air Griffey Max 1. Is this basic colorway better than the ‘Fresh Water’?

Set to release during the 2009 holiday season, this sneakers contains a 100% black leather base. Personal Ken Griffey Jr. details appear on the lateral collar (jersey number) and on the sole (flaming baseball design). If you recall, Nike has applied this “triple black” effect to previous sneakers such as the Nike Zoom LeBron VI and the Nike Air Penny II. Via Footlocker.

Nike Air Griffey Max 1 Black/RedThe OG Seattle Colorways of the Air Griffey Max 1 have been on everybody’s watch list since the rumors started swirling about their return many months ago. Don’t forget “The Kid” played for some other teams throughout his career that can also be made into some fresh colorups.

In comes the reminder, the Cincinnati Reds inspired Nike Air Griffey Max 1 done up in black, red and white. This colorway is always popular in the sneaker game, and even though Jr’s performance while playing in Cincy was hampered by injuries, these kicks will be likely be scooped up with the quickness when they drop later this year.

Air Jordan 5 Raging Bull Pack 3M

Posted: 31 Mar 2009 09:36 AM PDT

Air Jordan 5 Raging Bull Pack 3MThe Air Jordan 5 Black 3M showed up on the web earlier this month for the first time. As part of the Raging Bull Pack, which will include the Red Suede version, will definitely be one of the highlights of 2009 for most heads.

The Air Jordan 5 Black 3M from the Raging Bull Pack could be the freshest colorway of the Air Jordan 5 we’ve seen since the Fire Reds returned back in 2006. The black 3M upper done looks much better then the previous 3M releases like the Green Bean Air Jordan 5’s

Available at MarqueeSole in limited sizes for $269.

Kicks On Court: Al Harrington’s Protege Sneaker

Posted: 31 Mar 2009 09:32 AM PDT

Kicks On Court

Throughout our Kicks On Court, we have showcased many shoe brands, namely Nike, Jordan, Reebok and Converse. However, a fairly new brand named Protege has been spotted on the feet of a few NBA players lately.

You may have seen television advertisements (shown after the jump) featuring New York Knicks forward Al Harrington for Protege recently. With that said, the fairly new sneaker company is owned by Harrington himself. His sneakers are sold only in K-Mart for $35. Other NBA players wearing Protege include Stephen Jackson, Ron Artest and Mikael Pietrus. Click the jump to check out Al Harrington’s signature sneaker plus other sneakers worn by Dwyane Wade, Monta Ellis, Deron Williams and others.

Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier III White/Navy

Posted: 31 Mar 2009 09:07 AM PDT

Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier III White/NavyWe’ve seen only a few short of a million colorways of the Zoom LeBron VI, and in the last week we’ve already seen three colorups of LeBron’s “other” sneaker, the Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier III.

The No Limit Solider Reunion (shout out to kicksfanatik09) camo colorway didn’t get much love yesterday, especially with the difficult task of following up the black/red colorway. This white and navy make-up should be a more well received.

Kicks On Court Mid-Season RecapThe NCAA Tournament has almost come to an end, and due to frustration, many brackets have been shredded into pieces. On a different note, our Kicks On Court approached this year’s tournament in a different way. We kept our eye on the player’s feet this time, therefore, we spotted some exclusive sneakers whether it be PEs, general releases or retros.

With that said, we have compiled a list of some of the best sneakers seen in the 2008-09 NCAA Tournament. Click here to begin viewing our list of players sporting retros, PEs and fairly new exclusives. Let this take a little of the frustration away from your damaged brackets!

According to you, our Kicks On Court has spotted better sneakers in the NCAA Tournament than in the NBA 2008-09 season lately. With that said, we spotted many classic Jordan retros that we have not see in the pros yet. Besides the CDP, when was the last time you seen the Air Jordan 7 “Hare” Retro in action? In addition, J.T. Tiller’s Air Jordan 14 “Chartreuse” was a pleasant surprise as well.

Nike Shox BB4 Returns

Posted: 30 Mar 2009 03:06 PM PDT

Nike Shox BB4The Nike Shox BB4 was a shoe that changed the game when it made its way to the court in late 2000.  Featuring the at the time new and revolutionary Nike Shox technology, the shoes boasted a responsive yet comfortable cushioned ride.

A creative “boing-boing” commercial series supported the release of Nike Shox, but these shoes will be best remembered by basketball fans as the kicks on Vince Carter’s feet when he pulled a “That Ain’t Right” move in the 2000 Olympic Games.

The Nike Shox BB4 is back in an original White/Metallic Silver-Lapis colorway exclusive to the Foot Locker House of Hoops.

5 Minutes with Bun B

Posted: 30 Mar 2009 02:49 PM PDT

5 Minutes with Bun BThink that you know Bun B of UGK? Sure you know the music, the new album UGK 4 Life releasing tomorrow, but do you know what shoes got him hooked? What about what shoes he’s looking forward to the most?

Click here to read what info we learned in our 5 minutes with Bun B. Check back for more 5 minute sessions on Nice Kicks with other sneaker addicts. Also, for those UGK fans out there, check stores tomorrow for the new album UGK 4 Life.

Name:  Bernard Freeman aka Bun B of the UnderGround Kingz

Where you represent:  Houston, Texas (by way of Port Arthur!)

Shoe that got you hooked:  Probably the Jordan 1, and to be honest it might’ve been the price at first that captivated me..but by the 3 I was in like Flynn!

What’s on your feet:  CP3II Mardi Gras…gift from Chris and Jordan Brand!

Last pair you purchased:  Valentines Day Jordan 1 for the wife and British Tan Dunk High Premium for me…goes perfect with my tan suede New Era from St. Alfred!

Favorite pair you don’t own:  FLOM Dunk….I’ll probably want this shoe until the day I die!

Top 3 of all-time:  Jordan 3 white/cement grey, Nike Air Max 95 “Neon”, ‘06 All-Star Air Force 1 Hyperstrike…Texas baby!

Which upcoming release are you looking forward to?:  The next Clark Kent-designed pack (I know things that you don’t!!!!)

If you weren’t a rapper you would probably be a:  pilot

One reason why shoes matter:  Shoes matter because some of us understand and respect the energy and hard work that goes into designing.

One reason you love shoes:  I love shoes because they communicate who I am and what I represent without me saying a word!

One thing that you dislike about the shoe game:  The proliferation of “sneakerheads” right now. It’s amazing how someone whose oldest shoe was released in the 2000’s can call himself that.  I understand everyone wants to fit in but this is getting ridiculous! But hey, I got love for everybody…tell you what..go to your grandparents house and see if dad’s old shoes are still in the basement…you might find an OG! I kid I kid!
