Does Dwyane Wade fit into the Signature Shoe Model for Jordan Brand?

Posted: 21 Jul 2009 11:08 AM PDT

Dwyane Wade Signature Shoe

At one time, being chosen by a brand to have a signature line was the ultimate sign of accomplishment. Some of the greatest Hall of Famers didn’t hear of such a thing, but when Michael Jordan signed a deal with Nike in 1984, the game of signature sneaker forever changed. Instantly every brand was reaching to their top athletes to create a product that was co-labeled with a trusted logo and a marquee name. Basketball was THE sport footwear companies were after and getting a face to represent your logo was mandatory to make it in the competitive market. Adidas, Converse, Reebok, New Balance, Avia, LA Gear, and even KSwiss got their name into the NBA and NBA player’s names on their shoes.

While some brands had their chosen one, players names began to become ubiquitous with the products they wore. For years, Charles Barkley played in the same Air Force basketball shoes many other players wore, but on the streets, they were known simply as the Barkleys. Slowly Nike added his jersey number to the shoes on heel tabs, added “CB” to the end of the product name, before eventually giving Sir Charles a full fledged line of products named after him.Read the rest of Does Dwyane Wade fit into the Signature Shoe Model for Jordan Brand?

Vans 106

Earlier this summer, Vans catered to the beachgoers by releasing a couple colorways of the Vans 106 SF. Now, later into the summer, Vans will introduce an updated version of the 106. Is simplicity a must for you or would you rather wear a more eye-catching sneaker?

Vans has now added a white vulcanized sole to the 106 model. To coincide with that section, this particular sneaker features white contrast stitching throughout the base and white shoelaces. However, each pair will also come with a pair of tonal shoelaces. Colorways will include purple, green, navy blue and black. Available now at Flauge. Click here to view additional photos.

STPL x Airwalk Terrain

Posted: 21 Jul 2009 11:00 AM PDT

STPL x Airwalk TerrainYesterday we took a look at the History of Jeff Staple Pigeon Collabs. Today, another of Staple’s latest works has surfaced.

The STPL x Airwalk Terrain may hit retailers later this year. Priced at around $50, these will be sold exclusively through Payless Shoes. No surprise, as we predicted that we would see Payless exclusives last year when news broke that Jeff was teaming up with Airwalk. Many of you predicted ridicule to those camping outside of Payless. Now let’s hope those of you ridiculing, won’t be pointing and laughing at yourself in line.

New Balance Fall 2009 Preview

New Balance Fall 2009 Preview

During what most of would consider the greatest era of running sneakers, the late 80’s to early 90s’, New Balance carved itself a niche in the hearts of sneakerheads. This Fall will see the return of many of the company’s most popular silhouettes in a number of colorways.

Some of our personal favorites, the 850 and 1500 silhouettes, have been revamped in colorways that will definitely make the office wish list. There are a couple things to point out about what makes the New Balance Fall 2009 Collection appealing. First, colorways are a creative mix, yet not over the top. Secondly, New Balance uses a nice mix of materials, without traveling to some 4th world country to find the skin of some rare nocturnal reptile.

Posted: 21 Jul 2009 09:28 AM PDT

Air Jordan 1

A couple of weeks ago, we showed you the Air Jordan 1 Retro Phat Premier Lineup, and the comment section was filled with different opinions on this particular sneaker. Some of you stated that Jordan Brand was in the midst of ruining the Air Jordan 1, while others thought the Premier was a nice upgrade. If you voiced the latter opinion, you will be ecstatic to know the first Air Jordan 1 Retro Phat Premier colorway will surface in October.

This particular sneaker owns a predominately black premium leather base with maize contrast stitching throughout the upper. It also contains minimal red details in the form of the shoelaces, outsole and swoosh. The latter area also possesses a carpet-like texture. Click here to view detailed photos.
