Nike Blazer High “Square Mesh”

Posted: 02 Dec 2009 12:58 PM PST

Nike Blazer High "Square Mesh"

At first glance, this Blazer High may seem like just another in a long line of clean, single-color designs we’ve seen from Nike since this classic dropped decades ago. It’s the material that’s used here though, that makes sets these apart.

A square mesh is the choice construction fabric, comprising the upper entirely. Very similar to ballistic mesh, it uses a square weave, though it appears to not be made of plastic. Matching leather is used for the wrap on the bottom of the upper and toe, as well as the tongue. Patent is used on the Swoosh and heel panel for good measure.

The classic Onitsuka Tiger X-Caliber runner was given the once-over by German retailer Azita, producing a bright but clean colorway. Now not only can you grab a pair of your own at Crooked Tongues, but we have some detailed looks for you.

The upper is composed of grey mesh by the toe, and leather and suede fo the remainder. A grey-to-black gradient is used, adding in some color and providing a contrast to the bright yellow midsole. The same yellow is used again on the tongue label, where the old school Onitsuka Tiger shield logo appears. How do these compare to the collaboration the Japanese brand did with Wood Wood?

Li-Ning Jose Calderon White/Black

Li-Ning Jose Calderon White/Black

It’s rare that a non-major brand sneaker makes waves with our readers the way Jose Calderon’s Li-Ning Signature did when we had our first look. And to follow up that first colorway is a detailed look at a second one, as well as a sneak peek at a third.

This pair uses a white leather upper with a black ribbed midsection. The toe box is a single piece and constructed with a pinstriped shiny leather, likely for added durability. Minimal red accents come on the Li-Ning logo, lace hoops and inner midsole. A clear outsole is mixed with white for good measure. The pair we get a small look at uses black for its majority with touches of white and purple. Are these better than the black and red?

Black wool graces the collar area, the side panels and the toe box. The rest of the sneaker is done up in black leather. Other features include a cream-colored inner lining, black shoelaces and a 0.44 sticky rubber sole. Is this one of the better Dunks of 2009? As stated earlier, this shoe is now available at Allike in a couple of sizes. Click here to view additional photos.

Vans Ripsaw Monochromatic Blue

Vans Ripsaw Monochromatic Blue

Omar Hassan’s signature skate shoe hasn’t been seen around these parts before, but here we get a look at a new and very bright colorway. The lines are very to similar to another Vans staple though, as this one maintains the “wave” design on the mid-panel from the SK8 Mid.

The single-color uppers are also made of a single fabric, as suede is used for every panel. The blue of choice is very bright, adding in a touch of teal. Like almost every Vans shoe, these feature a vulcanized sole with a pinstripe in the same color. A padded tongue is used, which also feature’s Hassan’s name. These are available now at select retailers.
