Update: No Shoes for LeBron Free Agency Tour

Update: No Shoes for LeBron Free Agency Tour

It turns out that Nike will NOT be creating shoes for the LeBron free agency tour we just covered. A tweet by CNBC’s Darren Rovell revealed the news, though no word has been given as to the legitimacy of the tour happening at all.

While sneakerheads should naturally be saddened by the news that no special shoes will commemorate the tour by King James, it does make it seem as though the Nike statement confirms the validity of the tour itself. Still, don’t put it on your calendars until LeBron’s plane touches down at JFK.

Nike is clearly denying any special shoes, but it’s hard to believe the world’s leading sports gear producer won’t play a part in LeBron’s decision. Building the LBJ brand has long been a clear goal of King James’ and it only makes sense that his number one endorser would be involved with doing so.

Jordan Ol’ School IV Black/Metallic Silver

Posted: 04 Jun 2010 12:28 PM PDT

Throughout this week, a slew of new Jordan silhouettes surfaced on the web including the high-performance Jordan Carmichael, the Air Jordan 2010 Team and the Jordan Take Flight. In addition, Jordan Brand plans on continuing the Ol’ School series by releasing the Jordan Ol’ School IV later this year.

At a first glance, Jordan Brand seems to have went in a totally new direction in regards to the Ol’ School series. The Jordan Ol’ School III, a sneaker we spotted consistently in our Kicks On Court this year, contains a very bulky build as did the other two Jordan Ol’ School sneakers within the series. However, the fourth and final Jordan Ol’ School owns a sleeker build and possesses more of a performance look than its predecessors. This particular pair, done up in black/metallic silver, features a monochromatic, mesh, net-like texture throughout the midfoot and toe box for breathability, while monochromatic elephant print sections add to its appeal. It also contains a transparent visible Air heel unit, a metallic silver Jumpman and a patent leather, mirror-like heel counter. What are your thoughts on the Jordan Ol’ School IV?

LeBron James & Nike to Tour NBA Teams

Posted: 04 Jun 2010 11:13 AM PDT

LeBron James & Nike to Tour NBA Teams

According to a source close to King James, the free agent NBA superstar is set to embark on a tour of possible future franchises all across the country. As you would expect, Nike will be touring with him as well.

The source says trips to Chicago, New York and New Jersey are definite, and LBJ has the option to meet with Miami and the Los Angeles Clippers following his first three visits. Apparently, Nike is creating shoes to mark each meeting, which we presume could be any one of the number of models in the LeBron VII line. Each shoe will be dated with the day LeBron spent meeting with each franchise. No more information has been released regarding those shoes, however.

Each of the teams mentioned could use LeBron’s help of course, with varying degrees of help already in place. The trip will kick off July first (the beginning of NBA free agency), and the media is surely already salivating. In you opinion, where do you think LeBron will have committed to playing once the ink on his next contract is dry?

Nike Air Max A Lot “Olympics”

Posted: 04 Jun 2010 10:58 AM PDT

Nike Air Max A Lot "Olympics"

Despite a poor reception by readers, a number of NBA players went ahead and wore the Nike Air Max A Lot this past season. The colorway we see here isn’t a PE however, but it does use the same colorway that’s been seen on the shoes of some of the United States’ Olympics representatives.

White leather covers the upper, while navy blue works as the main accent color. Said hue is used on the outsole, midsole stripe and of course, the large “AIR” along the sides. Red and gold are also used in large amounts as accent colors. We saw a hybrid sneaker make use of this look a few days ago in the Air Zoom Barcelona. Does this pair, which is available at Eastbay now, do it better?

Footwear Faceoff: Kobe Bryant vs Rasheed Wallace

Posted: 04 Jun 2010 10:28 AM PDT

Earlier today, we showcased Kobe Bryant and Rasheed Wallace in our Kicks On Court as both players rocked new colorways of the shoe they’re most associated with currently.  We stated that both players shared top sneaker honors in game 1 of the 2010 NBA Finals; however, who topped the Kicks On Court chart between these two?

The Nike Zoom Kobe V “Big Stage” may not be one of the more colorful Kobe Vs we have seen; yet, it is undoubtedly one of, if not the most detailed Kobe V we have seen to date. Kobe’s embossed stats on the base remind us of the Nike Zoom Kobe IV “2009 Finals Edition” which also featured various Kobe stats from the respective year. As for Sheed’s Air Force 1s, the majority of you would agree that this is one of the better Rasheed Wallace PEs ever seen. The green patent leather mixed with minimal black accents is a fresh look to say the least. We forgive him for stepping on the court in the Nike Zoom Sharkalaids the other night. With all of that said, who wore the better sneaker in game 1 of the 2010 NBA Finals?

**Note**: Participate in our newly-designed Footwear Faceoff voting poll below and choose whose basketball sneakers you liked more.

Nike Air Pegasus 89 Team Royal/Vibrant Yellow

Posted: 04 Jun 2010 09:58 AM PDT

Nike Air Pegasus 89 Team Royal/Vibrant Yellow

The Air Pegasus 89 doesn’t get the same attention other classic Nike silhouettes do, but a number of solid colorways in a row have helped keep this runner relevant. This pair just released overseas and with any luck, it will hit stateside shelves soon.

Team Royal suede and mesh are used for the upper, while a bit of Italy Blue is also used on the midfoot. Accenting all that blue are a Vibrant Yellow Swoosh, eyelet and outsole toe. Grey and and white also are used at key points.
